Today is novella day! No Such Thing As Duty is officially released! You can buy it here, or here, or here (my affiliate link!) and pitch in to the Neon Hemlock kickstarter here if you want this book plus ALL THEIR OTHERS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.
Thank you Sia at Every Book a Doorway for this lovely feature. And on Thursday I’ll have a feature up on Mary Robinette Kowal’s My Favorite Thing. (This link will go live then)
Also check out this sick reel Neon Hemlock made. If you’re on the fence about this book I hope this will convince you. It would have convinced me, if I hadn’t written the thing!
Speaking of kickstarters, and getting lots of books throughout the year, I’m going to give you a little sneak peek in this newsletter of the NEW SMALL PRESS I am (perhaps foolishly) starting with several long-time friends. We’re devoted to the idea that books should make you feel nourished, excited, and spiritually expanded. We’re also cranky old men who wish anyone would publish stuff like Diana Wynne Jones anymore. We’re going to have a kickstarter….sometime in 2025 to fund our first season of books. So watch this space, or even better subscribe to our newsletter!
Speaking of being a cranky old man who’s way behind the times, I just played Disco Elysium for the first time and it blew my god damn mind. So now I’m listening to the Disco Elysium soundtrack on repeat, interspersing it with Vagabon’s self-titled 2019 album when I need variety. I’m reading the usual bizarre melange (The Market Gardener, The Nine Tailors, Feeding Hannibal, and Debt: the First 5,0000 Years), and still trying to finish the final season of The Americans (it’s rough, i’m scared for philip and elizabeth, also omg i don’t want it to be over).
Anyway. You can buy my silly little book today (at this affiliate link or wherever else) and you SHOULD! Because joy is thin on the ground these days and this way you’re making two people happy: me AND you! Except you’re probably making yourself kind of miserable and filled with angst, but in that nice way that you get from reading books about extremely tortured emo people doing extremely tortured emo stuff. So, you know, that’s LIKE happiness in many ways.
Bought!
Just bought it! Can't wait to read it!
